Remembering the Aurora Movie Theater Shooting Victims – Veronica Moser-Sullivan

As I sat and watched the tributes and speeches last night meant to honor those affected by the horrendous events that took place in an Aurora movie theater early Friday morning there was one thing that was mentioned that really stuck with me. It came from President Obama. He said something along the lines of not letting the evil person who did these horrible things get the attention, but rather give our attention to the good people who were hurt and lost. That is what I plan to do over the next few days. Today we remember the youngest victim to pass, 6-year-old Veronica Moser-Sullivan.

As a father of young children, this story obviously tugged on my heart strings pretty hard. You hear the stories that Veronica’s family tells about her like “She loved to dress up, and read and was doing well at school.” Her dad told about how excited she was to have just started swimming lessons on Tuesday. Veronica’s dad, Ian Sullivan, went on to say “She is the last girl I will ever love.”

It is the hurt that those who loved the victims go through that makes the situation real. They will never get to play with their little girl again because of the senseless acts of one individual.

Ashley Moser, Veronica’s mom, was in a critical condition after the shooting and was unaware that her daughter Veronica Moser-Sullivan was among the 12 people who lost their lives. As she drifted in and out of consciousness, her family could not bring themselves to say that her daughter had been killed for fear it would worsen her own condition. Yet despite Miss Moser’s serious injuries to her neck and abdomen, which are expected to leave her paralyzed, her unborn child is reportedly healthy.

However, it emerged on Sunday that she had been told the heartbreaking news late on Saturday night. “She took it very badly,” Jean Moser said “I know she was shocked.”

Take a second to pray for Veronica and those who loved her if you get the chance today.

Friends of the family have set up a fund to help with the costs of Veronica’s funeral and Ashley’s hospital expenses.
